Ebony.

Ebony - valuable wood of various tree species (mainly ebony) growing in the intertropical and subtropical zones. It is dark-coloured or black, hard, heavy and difficult to split. It is used to make musical instruments, drawing instruments, artistic furniture and also in sculpture. The names of ebony are linked to the colour of the wood, e.g. black ebony, green ebony and also to the country or port of export, e.g. Bombay ebony, Ceylon ebony, Madagascar ebony. Black ebony is the most valuable, supplied mainly by tree species of the genus Diospyros, primarily Diospyros ebenum. Ebony is a type of wood that has been associated with art for centuries. Ebony is used to make beautiful wooden musical instruments, such as clarinets and flutes, as well as piano keys, violin parts, violas, guitars, double basses and cellos. It is also used to make some measuring instruments. It is ideal for turning artistic furniture, decorative objects, e.g. knife handles, marquetry, jewellery and drawing instruments. Ebony is the material of sculptors - masterpieces of sculptural art are created from it. It has a regular grain pattern which greatly enhances its appearance. This makes it much more visually appealing. Ebony is one of the hardest and densest types of wood. It is a wear- and weather-resistant wood. Products made from it are durable.
